Instituting Family Game Night

Author: FamilyFunTime   August 17, 2009

elk-fest

It’s important that families get together and have fun in a medium that doesn’t involve a television screen. When families interact with each other, their bond together grows, and it’s been shown that kids who are close to their parents will also listen to their parents when it comes to making difficult decisions that all kids will have to make at some point or another. Parents who share a close bond with their children can communicate to them about drugs, sex, and other issues that will face them later in life. In addition, sharing time together as a family is a whole lot of fun, and there’s no downside to feeling close with family.

Plan a family game night together, and be sure to grab a couple family board games. This is one of the best ways for parents to interact with their children, talk about their lives, and also ensure both kids and parents trust each other. Kids who have strong bonds with their parents are more likely to listen to their parents when necessary.

Lexogon

lex000

Discover Lexogon and Lexogon One — the word games where everyone plays all the time and you think about words in a great new way.

The challenge - find a word that uses the clue letters in order - but arranged in the special way required by your color category, (maybe all clue letters together, maybe the first letter first and the last letter last, or one of the other variations.)

Roll the die, move to your square, get a clue that matches the square’s color, find a word that fits the color’s Category Rule in the time allowed and you’re on your way. Be the first to find words for all the categories and you’ve won.

You move around the board finding words. There’s risk, luck and strategy involved: you can be challenged, you can lose a turn or credit for a category,
you can send someone back to start, you can “zap” or be “zapped” by another player - it all depends on the roll of the die, the cards and your way with words.

Lexogon™ and Lexogon One™  stretch your brain, memory, and mettle. They make you think, laugh and want to play again.

veggie-board-game Who but a bunch of Veggies would think of racing across a sink full of dishes, pots and pans? Kids will have FUN helping one of their favorite Veggies get to the other side and win this silly game! But getting there is the challenge!

They must be careful when moving their Veggies across the sink by balancing them on dishes and other things hidden under the soap suds. But if they don’t stay alert their Veggies may fall into the sink and disappear for the rest of the game! Kids’ memory skills are continuously tested. They must remember where the solid landings are, especially if they’re not lucky enough to be wearing the life preserver. And the next time they play, everything will be changed because of the 4 different memory maze patterns hidden below the surface.

So get a friend or two or three and share lots of giggles playing  wonderful veggietales games with your veggie friends.

Educating Young Minds about the Christian Faith

Author: FamilyFunTime   August 4, 2009

bible-board-games

When it comes to educating kids about the importance of being a Christian, it can be difficult to reach children on a level similar to their level of understanding. The Bible is the kind of book into which infinite interpretation and importance can be drawn from, but children can’t grasp those difficult concepts. Thus, instead of making an attempt to introduce kids to concepts well over their head, start their education with a few simple and fun introductions to The Bible.

One great way to educate kids about The Bible is to play bible board games together. Most bible board games are centered around fun, but while having fun, kids will also learn about biblical events. Because kids start to understand these biblical events and context, their appreciation for the Christian faith will grow. It’s important that kids understand and learn to appreciate their faith while children, as this will translate into a future interest and passion for the pursuit of faith and God’s teachings.

inklings

The Inklings Board Game is an exciting and unique question and answer game that requires strategy to win! Just flip the spinner and watch the fun begin! If you spin a 1 or 4 you may try to answer the question or sell the question to an opponent. Spin a 2 or 5 and draw a card that gives you special benefits! Spin a 3 and go head-to-head with one of your opponents in answering the question. Spin a 6 and get in a bidding war with one of your opponents to see who is asked the question first! The game contains more than 280 questions. Some sample questions are “Who am I” and What am I”? Each question has six clues. The more clues you ask for, the easier the clues get. But remember, the more clues you ask for, the less points you can win. The first player or team to 55 points wins the game! Don’t know the Bible that well? No problem! The six clues get progressively easier until you get to the sixth question which is multiple choice! Inklings can be played with individuals, or in groups! Inklings is great to play with friends, family, and church groups.

Tailor-made for Rainy Days

Author: FamilyFunTime   July 17, 2009

board-games

Sometimes, a rainy day turns out to be a blessing in disguise. During the summer months, it means kids miss out on a day at the beach or a run through the backyard sprinkler. But don’t forget that an afternoon spent indoors with the family is never a bad thing - it’s a priceless bonding experience. A child’s natural inclination will be to turn on the television and vegetate for a few hours. As a parent, you can curtail that bad habit by bringing out a good, old-fashioned board game.

It’s easy to forget about those classic board games that are gathering dust in the utility closet. A few minutes of game play will remind you of these games’ addictive nature. Just try playing a game of Scrabble without someone calling for an immediate rematch. Yahtzee is just as engrossing, and the kids will learn to appreciate the extra time they spent in close commune with their family.

Bibliopoly

Author: Elena   July 12, 2009

bibleopoly Time to change the way we play games.   I grew up taking your money in Monopoly or Destroying  your opponents troops in Risk.  Since created in 1991 one of the most popular Christian board games is Bibleopoly. Bibleopoly promotes the act of cooperation that children should learn early in life. It’s a great game for the whole family. This game takes about a hour to play, 2 to 6 players   ages 8 and up.

This game is patterned after monopoly with collecting all of one color group and enjoying the fun of a property trading game while learning about the remarkable cities of the Bible! Start “In the Beginning”  BUT the great twist is you can only win by cooperation and helping out your opponents with good deeds or service.  The object of the game is to be the first player in a bible city to build your church.
